Description of Responsibilities
Maintains diesel truck operation by completing inspections and preventive maintenance requirements, correcting vehicle deficiencies, making adjustments and alignments, and keeping records.
Job Duties
- Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests, identifying worn and damaged parts
- Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems such as power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, and hydraulics; completes machine shop operations, making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units
- Maintains vehicle records by annotating services and repairs
- Uses different tools and equipment such as pressure gauges, pneumatic wrenches, welding equipment, screwdrivers, hoists, and jacks to repair trucks while constantly utilizing safety precautions
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be able to lift heavy equipment and parts regularly
- Excellent customer service skills
- Must be comfortable with working in awkward positions or cramped spaces
- Technical certification or degree
- Experience working with diagnostic computers
- Previous experience as a diesel mechanic
- Must have own tools
- At least 3 years experience
- Must be able to pass a drug screen and background check

Description of Responsibilities
- Repair/maintenance on trucks and trailers
- Perform tasks including changing out pumps, radiators, starters, alternators, brakes, wheel seals, etc.

Heavy Equipment Mechanic (Reidsville & La Grange Locations)
Foss Recycling is looking to hire an experienced heavy equipment mechanic to inspect, service, and maintain our range of heavy-duty metal recycling equipment.
Description of Responsibilities
- Driving to the job site, inspecting engines and equipment, carrying out services, conducting repairs, and providing routine maintenance to the recycling fleet
- Diagnosing faults using computerized testing equipment
- Adjusting equipment and replacing faulty parts
- Repairing damaged equipment parts
- Cleaning, lubricating, and conducting routine services on heavy-duty equipment
- Cleaning and servicing of machine attachments like winches, blades, grapples, magnets, and side booms
- Performing major repair work when necessary
- Consulting with other mechanics on smaller jobs
- Reporting damaged or faulty equipment to management
Required Experience
- High school diploma or GED
- Certification as a heavy equipment mechanic
- Proven work experience as a diesel or heavy equipment mechanic
- Understanding of computer testing technologies
- Ability to lift heavy machinery

Scrap Yard Worker (Durham & Gastonia Locations)
Job description
- Assists the location/scale manager in ensuring correct weights, materials description, and grade for all inbound and outbound loads
- Works under the direction of the location/scale manager in processing, sorting, grading, and baling/boxing of all materials
- Operates the scales. All scale tickets must be verified and contain correct information in regards to customer, material, weights (including gross and tare when applicable), and pictures. No manual inputs.
- Operates the forklift so as to lift, move, and position loads such as machinery, equipment, products, and solid or bulk material in a safe and efficient manner
- Processes/drains cars once brought into the facility
Requirements
- Preferred: a high school diploma or GED
- Preferred: two (2) years in scrap metal recycling environment
- Must have the skills and ability to identify various metals. Metals must be sorted and unloaded in accordance with Company Policy. Must perform hands-on work using equipment to move the heavier metals.
- Must be able to pass a drug test and background check

Drain Technician (Chesapeake Location)
Job Description
The basic function of the drain technician is to prepare all vehicles for placement in the field or for crushing.
Requirements
- Preferred: a high school diploma or GED
- Preferred: (2) years of experience in automotive or scrap metal recycling environment
- Must have basic knowledge regarding automobiles, some knowledge of metals, and must perform hands-on work using equipment to move vehicles and metals
- The physical requirements are those of operating loaders, forklifts/bobcat, moving vehicles, sorting metals, and directing customers.
- The individual will utilize body movements of twisting, bending, reaching, and using hands and arms.
- The ability to pick up items to a maximum weight of 45 pounds to the height of five feet
Working Conditions
- The fast-paced work environment will consist of lifting, moving, and draining vehicles.
- Requires working overhead and using various air tools
- The conditions of service will vary with the weather as some functions will be carried out in the yard while others are performed indoors or in covered areas.
Principal Duties
- Removes all fluids (gas, oil, transmission fluid, anti-freeze). Fluids are to be removed safely and in an environmentally friendly manner. Remove tires and rim (dismount tires from rims.) Removes catalytic converter, battery, mercury switches, and trash or clothing.
- Makes him/herself available to the location/U-Pull It manager assisting whenever and wherever needed. Performs other duties and tasks as determined by the location/U-Pull-It Manager.
- Ensures all necessary paperwork is completed and all required documentation is filled out legibly and turned in daily to appropriate personnel
- Ensures the working area (drain area) is kept in a neat, orderly, clean, and hazard-free condition
